Design Brief 3

All other ideas of reorganization improved the utility of the library, but what really makes a difference would be creating a digital platform with the data of all students to know who has taken each book, and if we number all the shelves and books people would find it easier to look for the book they want in the digital platform.
We have also thought that the head teacher could have his office in the library and this way control the students entering and leaving.

Design Brief 4

After describing our project, the reforms and changes that would be carried out and the final design, we received a variety of interesting ideas apart of the improvements that we wanted to include.
  • A section of the library could be aimed particularly to donate reading books from previous years to use them year after year and make a better use. The problem arises whith the need to decide who would receive the books, but as we are about the same number of students each year the problem is not too serious
  • A good idea would be to have a suggestion box in reception, this way and child fond of reading might suggest the kind of books that he would like to have access to in the new library
  • We also considered the need to lock the shelves so when a book has already been picked that will be noted on the digital platform and thus we will improve the organization of the new library
  • Buy a virtual encicopedia and install it on computers to make room on the shelves for other books and make the search for definitions, terms .. etc easier
  • If we want to use the digital board we will need to put blind curtains in the new windows

Design brief 1

Description: Our idea is to modify our school library, we will be redesigning some aspects that we think would be a good idea to improve. The basic improvement is to increase the use of the library which we think is almost useless.

Context: We want to reorganize the space and renovate the worn down material:enable plugs for using the laptop, as well as some computers, replace the old blackboard  We would also like to improve the unsoundness of the room, as is next to the playground were sport’s lessons are imparted and don’t allow to either read or study. Set opening and closing hours taking into account the possibility that it could be open all day, with a teacher in charge of it always

Future users: We want the library to be a useful place divided into two zones, an area where people of all ages can take refuge from the cold and rain and another area of study, use of laptops in addition to place where we can have group work

Objectives: For us a new library means a use of space that is not being taken advantage of, with the new reorganization we intend to engage both teachers and students to see the library as a place where they can stay in recess to work or study using books from the shelves or laptops, teachers will be caregivers and will have space and quiet to work. It also can work as a meeting room or as a room dedicated to students researches involving projects and extra credit projects.

Challenges: If we use the seminar that is next to the library we could create a larger space divided into different zones. Chairs need to be changed due to the uncomfortability they generate, as larger windows for natural light.

Design brief 2

New challenges: we have reached the decision that it is a fairly large space, there is no need to extend it but there are some columns that can not be tear down therefore the space between tables is needed so people can access the shelves without problem we’ll like to change the roundtables for rectangular tables that do not occupy much space and allow group work.
The redistribution of the shelves would leave space for more tables. This redistribution would mean increasing their height and again, taking advantage of the space that is not occupied by the windows that,  as stated in the last Design Brief 1 will be all of the same height and also organize books by age, theme ...
